This week, SAL Scientific tell us how they’re getting on in the Catalyst Centre

We are nearly two months into our time at the Catalyst Centre now, and wow, how time flies! Work is progressing well and we’ve recently been focusing on two areas.

Firstly, Sales and Marketing. We’ve been promoting SAL Scientific through our professional networks, and since joining the OBN (the membership organisation supporting the UK’s emerging life science R&D companies), we’ve extended our network to the wider UK Biomed and Bioscience community. We’ve ramped up the marketing in a bid to win some initial business and gain an insight into the demand for different aspects of our offering. This has proved successful and we are currently following up on some initial leads arising from our efforts. Including some consultancy work that has provided us with the welcome challenge of managing our efforts to set up and promote the business, together with actually operating as a service provider.

Secondly, infrastructure. We’ve continued to put in place the infrastructure to enable us to operate effectively as a business. To this end, the workshops provided by the Catalyst Centre have proved invaluable. This was particularly true regarding sessions focused on the legal, financial and the intellectual property aspects of setting up a business. A recent milestone was to put in place all the necessary insurances required to operate the business. This had proved to be more challenging than expected due to the very specialised nature of our business, so we are relieved to have completed that requirement. There is still lots more to be done, but we are very excited by the progress that we have made so far with the support of the Catalyst Centre and the Science Park Team.
